Elizabeth Barkley
Music history, Theory and Composition, Piano, and Musics of Multicultural
America BA and MA from UC Riverside and a PhD from UC Berkeley.
Elizabeth holds a BA and MA from UC Riverside and a PhD from UC Berkeley.
She has taught music history, theory and composition, piano, and Musics of
Multicultural America. She is the 1998 Carnegie Professor of the Year, and
recipient of the California Community College Hayward Award for Excellence
in Education (1999); the Campus Diversity Award from the Center for Diversity
in Teaching and Learning (1999); and has been selected as a 1999-2000 Pew
Program Scholar.

Beatrice Cashmore
Beatrice Cashmore
Counselor for the Adaptive Learning Division
BA in English Literature from UC Santa Cruz and an MS in Rehabilitation
Counseling from San Francisco State University. Bea began at Foothill in 1977.
She holds a BA in English Literature from the University of California, Santa
Cruz and an MS in Rehabilitation Counseling from San Francisco State University.
She is a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist. Her position at
Foothill is counselor for the Adaptive Learning Division, serving students
with disabilities. She teaches Orientation to College for students and Community
Resources for families of disabled adults.
Kurt Gravenhorst
Composition, Literature, and Humanities
BS in Education and an MA in English from University of Nevada-Reno and MA
in Humanities from CSU Dominquez Hills. Kurt came to Foothill in 1985 from
the semiconductor industry where he was a technical writer and training
manager. He holds a BS in Education and an MA in English from University of
Nevada-Reno, and he will complete an online MA in Humanities from CSU Dominquez
Hills this year. Kurt was the first to teach computer-assisted composition
courses at Foothill College, and currently teaches composition, literature, and
humanities; in addition, he is the editor and feature writer for the Faculty
Senate newsletter.

Teresa (Tess) Hansen
English, Composition, and Chicano Literature
BA. in English from Santa Clara University, an MA from Stanford University
and from University of Iowa. Tess began at Foothill in 1991. She holds a BA.
in English from Santa Clara University, and an MA from Stanford University and
from University of Iowa. She teaches English, Composition, and Chicano Literature
and is the current coordinator of the Foothill College Multicultural Program. She
has recently returned from a sabbatical leave in Guadalajara, Mexico where she
studied mythology of indigenous Mexican cultures. She is currently involved in
a college-wide project addressing the diverse learning styles of students.

Mike McHargue
Counselor, founder of the Honors Institute, and founder and continued leader of
the Great Teachers Seminar
BA from Occidental College; an MA from California State University, Northridge;
and a PhD from Stanford University. Mike began at Foothill in 1977. He holds a
BA from Occidental College; an MA from California State University, Northridge;
and a PhD from Stanford University. He works as a counselor, was the founder of
the Honors Institute, and the founder and continued leader of the Great
Teachers Seminar. He has had extensive experience both in identifying and
developing great teaching (through activities such as the Great Teachers
Seminar and the Instructional Skills Workshops) and in student learning styles.

Rick Martinez
Mathematics with specialty in statistics
BS from California State University, Chico and an MS from California State
University, Hayward. Rick started to teach full-time at Foothill in 1997. He
holds a BS from California State University, Chico, and an MS from California
State University, Hayward. He teaches mathematics, and specializes in statistics,
including an on-line course which he has been offering since 1997. Currently
Rick is developing a web-based calculus course for implementation in Fall, 1999.

Harry Saterfield
Psychology BA from UC Berkeley; an MA from San Francisco State University;
and a PhD from Stanford University. Harry began at Foothill in 1975. He holds
a BA from University of California, Berkeley; an MA from San Francisco State
University; and a PhD from Stanford University. He has an extensive background
in student services and counseling. In addition to general psychology courses,
Harry teaches psychology of Race and Prejudice and will be offering one of
Foothill's first on-line psychology courses beginning Spring, 1999.

Phyllis Spragge
Dental Hygiene and Clinic Coordinator for first year dental hygiene students
BA in Health Sciences Administration at Saint Mary's College.
Phyllis teaches Dental Hygiene and is Clinic Coordinator for first year dental
hygiene students. She holds an AS in Dental Hygiene from Foothill College and a
BA in Health Sciences Administration at Saint Mary's College. She is currently
working toward an MA degree in Instructional Technology at San Jose State
University. She began teaching at Foothill full-time in 1998.

Sandi Watkins
Internet and Web Publishing
BA in Art from Western Illinois University and a MS in Educational Computing
from Iona College. Sandi teaches Internet and Web Publishing in the Computers
on the Internet Department. She came to Foothill in Fall of 1998. She has over
thirteen years experience in Information Technology and most recently was
Webmaster and Web Developer at a Silicon Valley company where her emphasis was
developing online multimedia training. She holds a BA in Art from Western Illinois
University and a MS in Educational Computing from Iona College. Her academic interests
include Interactive Multimedia on the Web, Online Teaching and Corporate Web Strategy
Development. Sandi is currently teaching her second online course and developing on
online HTML Web Publishing class for Fall 1999.

Mimi Will
Business, computer applications, and Internet
BA and an MA from San Francisco State University and an MA from San Jose State.
Mimi has been teaching at Foothill since 1976 and has taught business, computer
applications, and Internet courses. She holds a BA and an MA from San Francisco State
University and an MA from San Jose State and is currently completing an online PhD in
transformative learning. Mimi has co-authored four books about the human side of
information processing technologies and is a member of Women in Technology International
and the World Future Society. In Spring 1999 she will be teaching her third online
class.
